Classroom Idea

Here is a neat idea for a classroom job chart. When I get my own classroom again, I am def. doing this.
Take each student's picture at the beginning of the year. Cut their faces out. Laminate them. Put their faces on the helpers. Whoever has their face on the helper, has that particular job for the week!

Jobs include (from left to right): gardener, attendance & greeter, mailbox organizer, caboose & electrician, water bottle helper, deliverer (basically messenger but there wasn't messenger-like clipart!), teacher's assistant, line leader, janitor, pencil sharpener, prayer helper, and paper passer.

THE CLIPART COMES FROM LETTERING DELIGHTS.

ENJOY

Loyalty

Franklin shared this story with me yesterday. I wanted to share it with you guys because I thought that it was so touching. Click here... Dog watches over fallen seal

I have a true friend in Birmingham that lives with my mom. Here he is.  Meet Truffles. AKA Bruddy.

Our true friends do not have to be human.
They can be of any kind.
They can be ugly or cute.
My true friend pictured above is cute. ;)

Do you have a true friend?

crafty in the kitchen

At some point during the holidays, I want to try to make a few of these. I usually use my grandmother's crockpot candy recipe. It makes a TON and is so good. I will post the recipe closer to the holidays.

If you decide to make any of these I want to see!

What a weekend

This past weekend was jam packed with events. Friday afternoon Franklin and I drove to Birmingham. We took a party bus with about 8 other couples to Tuscaloosa to see My Morning Jacket in concert at the new amphitheater. I had never listened to their music before, but they were pretty good. The coolest part though was the amphitheater. So nice. I can't wait to go back. Why couldn't we have that when I was in college?

Saturday was Stokin' the Fire bbq fest at Sloss. This is Piglygamy's (Franklin's team) third year to compete I do believe. There were 63 teams competing and they placed 13th overall. I was so proud. Ribs, pork and chicken were judged. It was a long, fun day. Lots of people came out and I enjoyed catching up with friends. This year we had a spot under the bridge so it wasn't as hot. Thank God. Last year I almost had a heat stroke. Literally. Oh I almost forgot...Wendy Williams was there. I never knew she was such a big deal until she came as a guest judge on Saturday and everyone just stood around the tent watching her eat...

Saturday night I got to see Elizabeth and Liz and eat quesadillas. So glad it was a fun weekend.

Hope everyone has a great week!

love it

DIY

I love this idea to re-do furniture using paper, old clothes scraps, or wallpaper. This particular dresser was done with a bit of all three. I don't know if I would have as many contrasting patterns as she did, but I like the idea. It seems more appealing to me than painting, and a lot less messy.

She used mod podge to adhere the fabric/paper and then went over it with a finishing spray/mod podge so it wouldn't feel tacky. The sides are also covered with print, you just can't see in this picture.
I have heard of many people using mod podge lately and hear its fabulous.

Let me know if you try it.

I miss college

Check out these videos on Fall Recruitment. They are kinda awful, but makes me miss college. Rush started Sunday at Alabama and I would give ANYTHING to be there. Time passes too fast. Happy early bid day!

Clueless Truths

I got this from my friend Caroline. I think it is so funny. Most of these are so true. Enjoy.

Truths for Mature Humans:
1. I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing is worst than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection…again.
13. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. “Do not machine wash or tumble dry” means I will never wash this – ever.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn’t answer? Drop the phone and run away?
16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
17. I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
20. I wish Google Maps had an “Avoid Ghetto” routing option.
21. Sometimes, I’ll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.
22. I would rather try to carry 10 over-loaded plastic bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.
24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
25. How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear or understand a word they said?
26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?
29. There’s no worse feeling than that millisecond you’re sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate bicyclists.
31. Sometimes I’ll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
32. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey – but I’d bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

Weekend Re-cap

Thursday I headed to Birmingham to see mom. My aunt and cousin came over and we grilled steaks. We also had potatoes asparagus, corn and tomatoes. So good. It was nice to see them and catch up. After dinner my cousin and I proceeded to clean out the whole upstairs of the house for the garage sale on Saturday because mom is moving. It was a DISASTER IMO. I was stressed out the whole time going through stuff I have had since I was little, high school stuff etc. It was basically like cleaning out my life. It was hard because some of the things I found meant a lot to me, but I have nowhere to put them. Anyway, we finally finished that and brought it all down to the garage for the sale. All day Friday we set up the garage. It was FULL. We didn't get around to putting up the signs until like 3 that afternoon. The garage sale started at 7 the next morning. Not good advertising, so we didn't make as much as we hoped. Not to mention mom and I both overslept on sat. morning and woke up to the doorbell ringing because someone was at our house! What a way to start the morning. We are going to have it next Saturday as well to see if we can sell a lot more.

Back track to Friday night. Went out to eat with eight of my girlfriends to mexican. It was a good time as well and so good to catch up with them. I love going "home" every once in a while.

Last night I dog/house sat for one of the teachers I worked with last year. She has a white lab, Jewel, who was so sweet. She wasn't any trouble at all.

That was my weekend. Not too exciting. Hope everyone had a good one.

I am going to end with this video. Lately I have been thinking a lot about those who fight for US.

A-fish-ally obsessed

I love this idea for the first day of school. For any grade. I think I even like this better than the "I'm so Lucky to have you in my class" idea in one of my previous posts.

I can't help but think of all of the fun things I would do if I had a classroom of my own like I did last year. I have so many new ideas. With the year starting, it is very hard to think about everyone going back to school and I don't have a job. I want more than anything to be teaching, but God has another plan. Maybe he wants me to take a year off and do something else. I am starting to think so. Plan B will either be an office job, or a job at Huntsville Hospital working in the education department. I REALLY just want to be in the classroom though. ugh. To all my teacher friends who started back this week, I am thinking of you, I am jealous of you, and I wish you the best year yet!

DIY Wipe Off Board

I love this DIY because it is so simple. This would be great to have on your desk or even in your kitchen as a menu planner. I saw this on Pinterest and think I wanna make it...

Need: Frame, scrapbook paper, dry erase marker.

Scrapbook paper in frame.

To- do list or menu planner.

Wipe-off with paper towel when finished.

Let me know if you make this.

DumDum Tree DIY

Here is a cute DIY for a classroom incentive. Since I do not have a teaching job right now, I have been using this to reward kids during tutoring sessions. So far it has been a hit and it is REALLY easy to make. I saw this idea in the blogger world, but sadly, I can not remember which blog.

You only need three things! A small flower pot, large bag of DUMDUMS, and a foam filler. I picked these things up at the Dollar Tree, but you can find them most anywhere. This is kind of a fancy/cheap flower pot, but just a regular clay one would be fine. I substituted Charms for DUMDUMS because this is all they had and I wasn't making another stop. And the green foam piece is one of those things you stick flowers in for arrangements to get them to stay. (Can't think of the name, forgive me.)

Push the foam piece down into the flower pot so it is secure. It should fit tightly and stick out about half an inch. Start from the inside, pushing the DumDums down into the foam until it is completely covered. This took me about 3 Charms bags (and I could have used a few more), but one big bag of DUMDUMS should do.

And here ya go. Done. Took about 10 minutes.

What else could you use this DUMDUM tree for? Maybe on your desk at work to share with your co-workers?

Don't forget about the giveaway. All you have to do is follow and comment to enter!
Get with it people.
